In the Dadri assembly constituency of Haryana, BJP has a new MLA, age 50 Sunil Sangwan
By a margin of 1,957 votes, Sunil Sangwan, a former jail superintendent, defeated Manisha Sangwan, a candidate for Congress to win the race. Additionally, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, a rape offender and chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, was given six paroles by Sangwan. The saffron party has never before won a Dadri assembly seat.

Shortly before the Haryana assembly elections, Sunil Sanwan, the previous superintendent of Sunariya Jail in Rohtak, where Ram Rahim was being held on accusations of rape and murder, announced his retirement from the position and joined the BJP.
On September 1, the state government quickly granted his request to leave the position voluntarily. Sunil Sangwan is the son of Satpal Sangwan, a former minister who joined the BJP three months ago after leaving the Congress. Both of his children, a son and a daughter, are captains in the Army. Sangwan joined the Haryana Prisons Department in 2002 and has served in the government for more than 22 years.

In September, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief received a 21-day punishment, his tenth in the previous two years. Three days prior to Haryana’s election, on October 2, the rapist who had been found guilty was freed. After his release, there were multiple media stories claiming that his followers, who are dispersed throughout six districts, were instructed to cast their votes for the BJP.
It is said that the message was delivered to his followers on October 3, two days prior to the voting day, during a satsang held at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa. Congress had notified the Election Commission that his release by the state government would violate the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in place during an election.
Since August 25, 2017, Ram Rahim has been serving two life sentences for the murders of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapti and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, respectively. He also served a 20-year sentence for the rape of his female students.
In the 2019 Haryana assembly elections, wrestler Babita Phogat from Charkhi Dadri was put forward by the BJP. Nevertheless, Satpal Sangwan, who ran as a Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) candidate and received 29,577 votes (23.38 percent of the vote share), came in second after she received 24,786 votes (19.59 percent of the vote share).
