Earlier, on Monday, reports surfaced suggesting that a first-year undergraduate student at National Law University Delhi, committed suicide at her home on September 30, 2024.
The tragic incident marks the third student suecide at the Law institute in recent weeks. Witnessing the third heartbreaking incident in a row, netizens are wondering and raising serious concerns over studentโs welfare and mental health support at the NLU.
Earlier, in a statement, the NLU Delhi announced a non-teaching day on September 30, and October 1, to honor Shreyashi Chandra as they paid their condolences to the tragic passing of Chandra.
Another girl student from NLU Delhi has committed suicide.
This is the fourth suicide this year and the third this month.

What Did Reports Reveal?
According to media reports, prior to Shreyashi Chandraโs death, first-year student Shah Khushil Vishal and third-year student Amrutavarshiny Senthil Kumar also died by suicide, prompting widespread debate on academic pressure, caste-based discrimination, and mental health challenges faced by students.
Witnessing the serious concerns of netizens, the Student Bar Council released a statement earlier as they expressed their solidarity with the student body.
In addition, the Student Bar Council pledged that they will ensure that studentsโ concerns are well addressed during this difficult time.
The third death in a row have placed significant pressure on the administration at the NLU Delhi to implement effective measures to ensure studentsโ well-being.
In response to the significant pressure, the registrar of NLU Delhi, Prof. Ruhi Paul, disclosed that an audit of the universityโs systems is underway to reassess and improve student support mechanisms.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing between the administration, students, parents, the Student Bar Council, and alumni to determine a way forward.

Although, as of now there isnโt much information available about Shreyashi Chandra. However, as per her LinkedIn profile, she got enrolled in BA LLB programme in May 2004.
Previously, she earned a degree in BMS, Finance from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Delhi in 2022.
As per her LinkedIn profile, previously, she worked as an organizing committee member at the literary society of SSCBS. In addition, she also worked as the organizing committee member at the CBS post.
