In 1999, Bigtree Entertainment was founded by BookMyShow’s co-founder and CEO, Ashish Hemrajani. Later, the company introduced its online ticket booking service, BookMyShow. Hemrajani began his career in advertising with the J. Walter Thompson company, an American firm, where he handled client and account management.
According to media reports, Ashish Hemrajani disclosed in an interview that he texted his boss while intoxicated in 1999 with his company concept for BookMyShow.
An intriguing development was that Hemrajani’s employer at the time had approved of his proposal. Not an issue. “Go for it,” was the response that inspired the creator of BookMyShow to begin building the site.
With the introduction of debit and credit cards as well as net banking, the number of theaters and multiplexes increased significantly in 2006. He changed the company’s name to “BookMyShow” in 2007. By 2011, the business had achieved new heights and was bringing in about Rs 16 crore. Ashish never looked back after that.

Ashish’s online ticketing site is charged by Mumbai-based lawyer Amit Vyas of aiding the black sale of tickets, which led to the summons of BookMyShow CEO. The British band will do two shows in January of next year, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
On September 22, Coldplay’s Mumbai concert tickets went on sale via BookMyShow. Fans were upset when, in a couple of minutes, every ticket was sold out.
The tickets for Coldplay, which were originally priced at ₹2,500, are currently being resold by influencers and other parties for as high as Rs3 lakh.
