A first-year student at NLU Delhi, Shah Khushil Vishal, died by suicide on Sunday and this is the second such incident at the university this month, following the death of third-year student Amrutavarshiny Senthil Kumar.
Emails, obtained by The Probe, reveal Khushilโs distress a month before his death, suggesting the administration was aware of the issues.
Shah Khushil Vishal has been recognized as the student who committed suicide. In his memory, NLU Delhi has announced September 23 as a non-teaching day. This is the University’s second occurrence of this kind. Before Shah Khushil Vishal, Amrutavarshiny Senthil Kumar, a third-year student, too died by suicide earlier this month.
Prof. Ruhi Paul, the registrar of NLU Delhi, emphasized that the university’s first focus is each student’s well-being. She mentioned that many steps have been taken to promote the health of students, such as the hiring of nurses, doctors, and counsellors.
She also disclosed that students have free counselling services available to them around-the-clock via the internet platform YourDost. In order to offer more help, Prof. Paul also said that the mental health staff, which presently consists of two counsellors, is growing.
Prof. Paul went on to say that the university has formed a committee made up of senior faculty members to interact with various stakeholders and recommend actions to promote students’ well-being.

Authorities at National Law University in the Dwarka North neighbourhood claimed that a third-year LLB student had allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her dorm room.
The student’s roommates and other hostel staff found her dead on Wednesday afternoon when she refused to open the door despite their repeated requests, according to them. Her body was discovered in the room hanging from the rod of an almirah.
According to the officer, the student had been depressed for a few months. She had pondered suicide with her pals earlier, following which the administration had summoned her parents who brought her to their house in Chennai for some time.
She was absent from both her lesson and the lunch that followed on Wednesday, the day her body was found. After a post-mortem inspection, family members received the body.
