Nithya Sre Sivan bio
Nithya Sre Sivan is an Indian para-athlete who was born on January 7, 2005, in Tamil Nadu, India. She is currently just 19 years old, and recently won a bronze at the Paralympics 2024 after beating Indonesia’s Rina Marlina 21-14 21-6. Nithya was a cricket fan growing up and started following badminton only after Rio Paralympics in 2016. She initially started out playing badminton with able-bodied sportspersons for fun and later shifted her focus to competitive badminton.
Nithya’s favourite sport initially was cricket, a game where her brother was a district level player and her father was a fan.
Career and achievements
Nithya Sre Sivan started out her training under coach Gaurav Khanna in Lucknow after her father’s colleague, who was a state-level para-badminton player introduced to her to sport. In May 2022, Nithya won a gold at the 1st Bahrain Para Badminton International Championships in Manama. The same year in December, Nithya won a gold in the women’s singles SH6 finals defeating Worlds silver medallist at the Peru Para Badminton International in Lima.
In April 2023, Nithya won two gold medals at the Brazil Para Badminton International. That same year in October 2023, she eventually won two bronze medals at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China.
