On Thursday, a hidden camera was discovered in the women’s hostel restroom at Gudlavalleru Engineering College, Andhra Pradesh. Authorities revealed that the camera had been covertly recording female students, and the footage was subsequently leaked and sold to some individuals. Following this discovery, the state government launched an inquiry into this matter.

As the news rapidly spread throughout the institute, thousands of students gathered and organized a protest on Thursday night. The students boycotted classes and continued their demonstrations until Friday, August 30, demanding swift action against those responsible. Despite the management’s attempts to control the situation, they were unable to quell the protests.

What happened in the Gudlavalleru Engineering College?

It is understood that Vijay Kumar, a senior student in his final year of BTech residing in the boys’ hostel, has been taken into custody. Age 22 Vijay was born on 9 April, 2022 and is a  SC Hindu. Following initial investigation, the authorities confiscated Vijay’s laptop, and doing further search to determine whether others were involved in the installation of the camera or the distribution of the footage. It is claimed that he is the prime suspect behind recording the videos and photos which he sold to other students.

According to some reports online, he allegedly also recorded his girlfriend in questionable positions but the claims are yet to be officially verified.

Protests erupted at SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district after the discovery of a hidden camera within the washroom of the girls’ hostel.

Students have been clamoring for justice and accountability since earlier today till late last night around 3:30 am despite disruptive police attempts. In response, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu ordered an immediate inquiry into it together with directions to district officers to visit the college in question for thorough investigations.

Earlier this month, a hidden camera was discovered in the restroom of a well-known coffee chain in Bengaluru, where an employee allegedly used a smartphone to record videos. The company swiftly responded by terminating the employee and pursuing legal action.

In light of these incidents, several precautions have been recommended for detecting hidden cameras, including conducting visual inspections, using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to identify unknown devices, and employing tools such as radio frequency detectors and lens detectors to uncover concealed recording equipment.
