Following a heated scuffle between the two sides India received two red cards, while Bhutan received one. Despite the setback, India held onto their lead, and advanced further into the tournament.

Aside from scoring a crucial goal for India, Molla also made headlines for his post-goal celebration which sparked widespread attention. After scoring the winning goal against Bhutan, Molla proceeded to lift his jersey and revealed a message on his undershirt written:

The message was a reference to the recent r*pe case, where a Kolkata doctor from RG Kar Hospital, was found brutally r*ped and murdered. Monirul Molla used the gesture to express his solidarity with the victim while also citing awareness and a demand for justice. Molla currently plays as a forward for Bengaluru FC, where he has so far spent his entire career.
