Samaresh Jung receives demolition notice

Much to the shock of Indian sport shooter and Olympic medallist Samaresh Jung, he received a demolition notice ordering him to vacate his house in Delhi in two days. Jung received the notice from the Land and Development office, citing that the land belongs to the ministry of defence.

Following the incident, Jung posted on X:

After the euphoria of Indian shooters winning two Olympic medals, I the team coach just returned home from the Olympics to the disheartening news that my house and locality is to be demolished in 2 days.โ€

Samaresh Jung bio and age

Samaresh Jung who is a Hindu by religion is an Indian sport shooter who was born on May 5, 1970 in Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh, India. He is currently 54 years old and started out shooting at a young age. Throughout his shooting career, Jung has excelled in various national and international competitions. Samresh is known for his calm nature even under pressure, and is a role model for many aspiring shooters. Over the years, he has represented India across multiple Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games.

Samaresh Jung is married to his wife Anuja Jung, who is also a fellow sport shooter.

Career and achievements

Samresh Jung won his first major achievement with a silver medal along with Singh in men’s 50m pistol. During the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, he managed to won two gold medals, in the menโ€™s free pistol pairs as well as in the 25 m open event standard pistol pairs. In both events, he paired up with Jaspal Rana.

Aside from that, he also won three Silver Medals, including two from the individual events and one in the Free pistol pairs with Rana. Following his achievements, he received the prestigious โ€œArjuna awardโ€ from the Government of India in 2002. Samaresh Jung also won a silver medal in the 2004 SAF (South Asian Federation) Games. The following year, at the fifth Commonwealth Shooting Championship of 2005, Samresh earned 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze.

That same year, he secured another Gold in the 10m Air Pistol event at the 2005 Indian National Games. Samaresh Jung attained his peak during the 2006 Commonwealth Games when he a won a total of 8 medals. That same year he also won the David Dixon “Best Athlete of the 18th Commonwealth Games” award for his achievements.

Four years later in 2010, Samaresh received the honour of bearing the Queenโ€™s Baton in the Opening ceremony at the Commonwealth Games held at Delhi, India. He now serves as a shooting coach taking in young and aspiring shooters under his wings and guiding them.
