Lim Si-hyeon is a South Korean archer who was born on June 13, 2003, and is currently 21 years old. Si-hyeon recently made headlines after setting a world record in the preliminary round while competing in the women’s individual event at the ongoing 2024 Summer Olympics. The young archer scored an impressive 694 points out of a maximum of 720.
Lim Si-hyeon sets new record at Paris 2024 Summer Olympics
Lim Si-hyeon started off her debut Olympic appearance in impressive fashion at the Paris 2024 Olympics archery events. Si-Hyeon dominated in the women’s recurve category. The youngster topped the individual ranking rounds and also broke both the World and Olympic records. She scored an impressive score of 694 out of a possible 720.
Lim surpassed the previous Olympic record of 680, set by fellow South Korean An San during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She also broke the World record of 692, set by another Korean archer, Kang Chae-Young in 2019.
Career and achievements
Lim Si-Hyeon has so far had a very successful journey in her archery career. She made her international debut back at the Shanghai 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 2, where she managed to clinch the gold medal. She followed this with another gold at the Medellin 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 3.
She further continued her success at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, where she won gold in the individual, team, as well as mixed-team events. Lim achieved a career high World No. 1 ranking in October 2023, at just 20 years old. She held the position up until January 2024.
She also managed to win a silver at the Bangkok 2023 Asian Archery Championships. During the same event, she won gold medals in the mixed team and women’s team events. Lim Si-Hyeon will be looking for nothing short of a gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics following a record-breaking score in the ranking rounds. Despite this year’s event being her debut Olympic appearance, she has set the bar up high.
