In the previous three weeks, there had been three significant encounters between security personnel and militants in the Doda district’s woodlands. The most recent event occurred one week after an Army patrol in the isolated Machedi forest zone in the Kathua district was ambushed by terrorists.

At Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Desa forest belt, around 55 km from Doda town, troops of the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police together established a cordon and search operation late on Monday evening when the encounter occurred.

Following a brief gunfight, the terrorists attempted to flee, but the captain’s troops pursued them because of the difficult terrain and dense vegetation.

“Indian Army stands firm with the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” Additional Directorate General of Public Information of the Indian Army posted on ‘X’.

According to the officials, reinforcements were called in by the Army and police on Monday night, and on Tuesday morning, they began a new search of the region with additional personnel.

According to them, in addition to using drones and helicopters for surveillance, the Army’s elite para-commandos were also put to use.

The terrorists, who are thought to have crossed the border and been hiding in the forest region for the past few months, were not in communication with the authorities again on Tuesday, they said.

After running afoul of security personnel in the neighbouring Ghadi Bhagwah forest, which borders the Kishtwar district, on July 9, militants were able to flee. On June 26, a day-long operation in the district’s Gandoh area resulted in the deaths of three foreign terrorists.
