About Gus Atkinson

Angus Alexander Patrick Atkinson, born January 19, 1998, is an English professional cricketer who plays for the English cricket team and Surrey County Cricket Club. He is a right-arm fast bowler.

The right-hand batsman was born in Chelsea, London, England under the zodiac sign of Capricorn to his parents, Edward Tom Atkinson, who’s widely known as founder of Padjet and Caroline Atkinson.

Unfortunately his mother, Caroline passed away in a car accident in 2020. Gus Atkinson has two siblings, younger brother, Barnaby Atkinson and a younger sister, Isobel Atkinson.

Standing at 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m), Atkinson made his first-class debut on 8 August 2020 for Surrey in the Bob Willis Trophy. He debuted in Twenty20 on 28 August 2020 in the T20 Blast and in List A on 22 July 2021 in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Atkinson’s average speed of 143.68 kmph/89.38 mph in The Hundred was bettered only by Haris Rauf back in 2023. Atkinson is known for his lightning-fast pace and has clocked an impressive 95 mph in The Hundred.

Career

In April 2022, he was bought by the Oval Invincibles for The Hundred. Atkinson was part of the Surrey team that won the 2022 County Championship and was retained by the Oval Invincibles for the 2023 season.

In September 2023, Atkinson signed a new multi-year contract extension with Surrey. In February 2024, he withdrew from his £95,000 IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders after discussions with the ECB to manage his workload.

Atkinson received his first senior England call-up in August 2023 for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. Witnessing his impressive performances, in December 2023, Atkinson received his first call-up to the England Test squad for their tour of India.

In June 2024, he was named in the Test squad for the West Indies series, making his Test debut on 10 July 2024, and achieved a 7-wicket haul in the match.
