On the other hand, it was a huge shock for the tournament after Cristiano Ronaldo’s side was locked out as the footballing legend was playing his last.
After a goalless 120 minutes, Kylian Mbappe’s France defeated Portugal 5-3 in the shootout, with Theo Hernandez scoring the game-winning penalty kick.
Meanwhile, Spain defeated Germany 2-1 in the 119th minute, Mikel Merino headed the ball into the net.
Shortly before the ninety-minute mark, Florian Wirtz’s late goal gave Germany some hope, and Merino headed in the few remaining seconds.
