A terrible occurrence recently that has startled everyone in the NFL world. Following the incident involving Auburn running back, the football community is in pain and praying for his life. 

One of the victims of the shooting that happened in Sarasota, Florida, early on Saturday morning was football player Brian Battie of Auburn University.

While four other victims were transferred to nearby hospitals, one victim, identified as Brian’s brother Tommie Battie IV, passed away from the injuries.

According to a news release from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:30 in the morning, there was a report of a shooting in Sarasota, which prompted the deputies to be contacted. 

Meanwhile, Battie is sadly in a critical condition and is fighting for his life. He is still in the critical care unit on Sunday, although he can move his hands, according to Auburn Sports of Rivals.

Regarding the shooting, authorities have not named any suspects, and the reason for the incident was not immediately known and the case is currently being investigated. 

Who is Brian Battie? 

Born in Sarasota, Florida, Brian Battie is a 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) return specialist. He went back to Braden River and attended Braden River High School before he entered his junior year. For his senior year, he went back to Sarasota High School.

Battie spent three seasons at the University of Southern Florida before the 2023 season, after which he transferred to Auburn. Throughout the season, he was the team’s primary kick returner, returning 28 kicks for 645 yards.

On 51 carries, Battie recorded seven receptions for 227 yards and a touchdown. As a return specialist, he was an All-American in 2021 after ending his time at USF with 1,185 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. 

The young player decidedlast year to transfer to Auburn. He revealed that he would enter the transfer portal in the first month of 2024 once again. The player is currently in his fifth year there.
