Badminton World Federation (BWF) Confirms Cancellation Of Spain Masters 2022 Scheduled For March

COVID has once again wrecked havoc in the world of badminton with the BWF revealing the Spain Masters 2022 had been cancelled 

Just when it looked like the world of badminton was finally getting back on its feet with tournaments going ahead after the hiatus of the COVID pandemic, upheaval is once again being caused in the fraternity.

Spain Masters 2022 Called Off Amidst COVID Surge In Spain

The Badminton World Federation has confirmed that the Spain Masters slated to take place in March of this year has been cancelled with the country expressing its inability to conduct the tournament scheduled for 1-6 March. The Spanish Badminton Federation concluded that they are not able to stage the tournament as planned in Week 9 owing to the ongoing COVID situation in the country.

The remainder of the HSBC BWF World Tour calendar for 2022 is unchanged with the BWF, in collaboration with its World Tour hosts asserting that things will go ahead as planned despite the emergence of the Omicron variant.

The ongoing India Open in India has been fraught with COVID positive cases with scores of players withdrawing from their encounters. While the showpiece event hasn’t been truncated. the pulling out of players rapidly has seen the shine come off the tournament with the entire English team withdrawing even before things got underway. It remains to be seen what’s on the horizon for the remainder of the calendar as cases continue to surge globally.
