Recently, during a interview with Bayern’s in-house TV channel, Serge Gnabry revealed his motivation and inspiration behind his distinctive celebration. The 28-year-old star revealed that his unique celebration’s origins traced back to NBA legend James Harden.
During his interview, Serge Gnabry stated that “There’s a video on YouTube where [James Harden] is cooking after dropping, I think, a buzzer-beater and won the game. So he was cooking, stirring it up, and that’s the celebration.
“I think you can relate the celebration to him having a buzzer-beater or winning the game to us, as in football we don’t score as many points as they do in basketball.”
He further added, “So I think there’s a resemblance, and he’s a very good offensive player, I’m an offensive player too, so, I think so too.”
Who is Serge Gnabry?
For those unfamiliar, Serge Gnabry is a German professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Germany national team and for the Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany on 14 July, 1995 as Serge David Gnabry.
Serge Gnabry is 1.76 m (5 ft 9 in) in height and 77 kg in weight. His father is Ivorian and mother is German. For unversed, Gnabry embarked on his football career in 2012 in with Arsenal in the Premier League. After a brief stint on loan with West Bromwich Albion, he came back to Germany and joined hands with Werder in 2016.
