2024 Badminton Asia Championships latest results, main draw schedule, date, venue, results, score, and Indian shuttlers
Sindhu, presently ranked 12th in women’s singles badminton, hasn’t clinched a title on the BWF World Tour this season. Nonetheless, she played a pivotal role in India’s landmark gold medal victory at the Badminton Asia Team Championships upon recovering from injury. In her inaugural match at the Badminton Asia Championships 2024, Sindhu will face off against Goh Jin Wei, the 33rd-ranked player in the world from Malaysia.
Aakarshi Kashyap is set to join the women’s singles main draw, where she will face Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan. Meanwhile, Malvika Bansod secured victory in the qualifiers and will go head-to-head against Korean shuttler Kim Y-j. Unfortunately, Ashmita Chaliha failed to qualify for the main draw after suffering defeat in the qualifiers.
In men’s singles, HS Prannoy will go up against China’s World No. 16, Lu Guang Zu, in the opening round. Lakshya Sen faces a tough challenge in the first round against 2018 All England Open champion and World No. 2, Shi Yu Qi. Kidambi Srikanth, who reached the semi-finals at the Swiss Open, will take on Olympics bronze medallist Anthony Ginting of Indonesia. Priyanshu Rajawat is gearing up to challenge 2022 Badminton Asia Championships winner Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia.
India’s prospects for a medal in the men’s doubles category took a hit as the world No. 1 pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, withdrew from the competition due to Rankireddy’s shoulder injury. In the opening round, Arjun and Dhruv are slated to compete against the Chinese duo Liu Yu Chen and Ou Xuanyi, while Garaga and Pratheek will take on the challenge posed by Chinese third seeds Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang.
As for women’s doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa will compete against Indonesia’s Febriana Kusuma and Amallia Pratiwi, who were the runners-up at the Spain Masters. Treesha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, on the other hand, are set to take on China’s fourth seeds, Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning.
