Reports also added that, after becoming an approver, Reddy gave the BJP an additional Rs 25 crore. In November 2022, Reddy, a director of Aurobindo Pharma Limited, was taken into custody due to his involvement in the liquor scam. Shortly after his incarceration, his business purchased Rs 5 crore worth of election bonds that the BJP had redeemed.
Aurobindo Pharma purchased bonds totaling Rs 52 crore, of which Rs 34.5 crore was given to the BJP. Sarath Chandra Reddy faces accusations from the Enforcement Directorate that he helped arrange bribes in the liquor licensing procedure in Delhi.
According to the Enforcement Directorate, Reddy and K. Kavitha were part of the “South Group,” which is accused of using Vijay Nair to smuggle in payments of Rs 100 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party in exchange for the 2022 Goa Assembly elections. This group’s other members also become approvers.
For the uninitiated, the Delhi liquor policy of the Aam Aadmi Party, which was in effect from November 2021 to July 2022, came under investigation for possible irregularities and bribes. Since then, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the Enforcement Directorate has conducted investigations.
