Luke Wood, an English left-arm fast bowler, has been signed by the Mumbai Indians to fill in for the injured Jason Behrendorff in the IPL 2024.

Following a bizarre accident during training in Perth last Thursday, shortly before departing for India, Behrendorff shattered his leg, ruling him out of the IPL. The base price of INR 50 lakh has been agreed upon for the English plater.

Luke Wood is an English cricket player who represents Lancashire and England, who was born on August 2, 1995 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England with his height at 5 feet 10 inches.

Wood, a left-arm fast bowler with the ability to swing the ball back into right-handers can persistently bowl in the 140-150 kmph range.

A look at Luke Wood’s career

Including five matches for England, Wood has amassed 147 wickets in 140 T20s at an economy rate of 8.45. In five Twenty20 Internationals for England, the total included eight wickets (ER: 9.66). In addition, he has 137 First-Class wickets at a strike rate of 35.40. In the List A format, he has just five scalps.

This will be his debut IPL season, however he has played in other T20 tournaments, including the BBL, PSL, and BPL, aside from The Hundred.

Wood competed for Peshawar Zalmi in the just finished Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, captained by Babar Azam. He was his team’s leading wicket-taker in the competition, finishing with 12 wickets at 29.08 over 11 games (ER: 8.24).
