In a case where there is a tie between two players who have scored the greatest number of goals in a single FIFA World Cup edition, the award goes to the player who has a greater number of assists registered against their name in the same campaign. The Golden Shoe Award was first given in the 1982 FIFA World Cup held in Spain.

The Golden Boot or Golden Shoe Award goes to the top goal scorer of the FIFA World Cup. While every World Cup had a ranking of the goal scorers, the first time an award was given was in 1982, under the name Golden Shoe.

It was rechristened Golden Boot in 2010. FIFA sometimes lists the top goal scorers of previous Cups among the Golden Boot winners

Which Player Has Scored The Most Goals In The FIFA World Cup?

Just Fontaine holds the record for scoring 13 goals at a single World Cup in 1958, which he achieved in only six games.

In the previous 11 editions, the highest goal scorers where not given the Golden Shoe or Golden Boot but were still acknowledged. Interestingly there is no player in the history of the competition to have won the Golden Boot or Shoe award consecutive times.
