A look at Mike Procter’s career
Mike Procter’s chest-on action and ability to release the ball early in his delivery stride made him well-known in the cricket community. Initially, he was primarily known for being a frightening fast bowler who was known for “bowling off the wrong foot.”
Procter, a legendary all-rounder of his era, amassed an incredible 21936 runs from 401 first-class matches, 48 centuries amongst his 1417 wickets at 19.53, and 70 five-wicket hauls.

Procter, who is regarded as one of the finest cricket players in the nation, was only able to play in seven Test matches; all against Australia; during his career since it happened to coincide with South Africa’s sporting isolation in the 1970s and 1980s.
Procter averaged 15.02 while taking 41 wickets from those seven games. In his second series against Australia, he averaged 34.83 with the bat as well.
Following his playing career, Procter entered the world of match refereeing, where he was met with criticism. In 2006, he officiated at the Oval when Pakistan lost the Test match due to ball tampering, and the umpires penalised them.
He officiated a match in Sydney in 2008 and, after being accused of racism, suspended Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh for three games. However, this decision was eventually reversed. In 2008, he left the position to take on the role of convener of selectors in South Africa.
Mike Procter’s family
Mike Procter is survived by his wife, a tennis player named Maryne Godwin and his two children, both daughters. Woodrow Procter, his father, Anthony Procter, and cousin A. C. Procter were all first-class cricket players.
