Jesse Lingard had agreed to a two-year contract with FC Seoul ahead of surprise move. Former Manchester United and West Ham midfielder Lingard has agreed a two-year contract with South Korean side FC Seoul and the 31-year-old has completed a medical and is in Seoul to finalise his move. He has a current net worth of $8 million.

Lingard is completing a contract with FC Seoul and is scheduled to travel to Korea for a medical examination, an FC Seoul official told the Korean daily Chosun Ilbo on Friday. Additional reports over the weekend indicate that Lingard is expected to arrive in Korea early this week.

The official added that once he joins the capital side, he will be paid the highest wage of any player in the K League, with an estimated annual salary of 1.55 billion won ($1.15 million). In addition, Lingard and the British broadcaster Sky Sports verbally agreed to a two-year contract with a third-year option on Friday.

The majority of Lingard’s 31-year career has been at Manchester United.

Between 2011 and 2022, Lingard played 232 games for United, scoring 35 goals and providing 21 assists. He then signed a one-year contract with Nottingham Forest, a freshly promoted Premier League team, when his contract with United expired in 2022. He played 20 games and scored two goals for the team.

Lingard was without a club when his contract with Nottingham expired at the end of the 2022–2023 season. Due to his ownership of Jlingz Esports, an eSports team, and his interest in the eSports industry in Korea, Lingard may have moved to FC Seoul.

If he signs with FC Seoul, he might replace winger Na Sang-ho, who led the team’s offensive with 12 goals in 38 league games the previous year. Na joined the Japanese team Machida Zelvia after departing the team last month.

After Jordan Mutch (2019), Jamie Cureton (2003), Chris Marsden (2004), Andy Cooke (2003–04), Richard Offiong (2005), and Dalian Atkinson (2001), Lingard would be the seventh English player to compete in the K League in Korea.

The capital squad had a disappointing season in which they failed to win any trophies and placed seventh out of twelve teams. On March 2, FC Seoul will travel to Gwangju FC for their opening league game of the season.
