The cornerstone for the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, know its location
Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls which are scheduled to take place this year, the governing BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has set in motion a number of projects so as to ensure a second consecutive term in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the stepping stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh at around 1 pm on Sunday.

Major Dhyan Chand Sports University Meerut: Area Covered, Features, Cost of Construction And Location
The university is set to be instituted in an area which covers Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut. The cost of constructing is estimated to be that of a staggering 700 crore, as per an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The erection of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Uttar Pradesh runs parallel with PM Modi’s objectives of inseminating a sports culture, along with implanting world-class sports culture in all parts of the country. This move comes after India’s successful run at the Tokyo Olympics this year which has encouraged the Prime Minister to take active steps towards giving more value and significance to sports in the country.
The sports university at Meerut will see itself getting stocked with state-of-the-art sports infrastructure which includes synthetic hockey ground, football ground, basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi ground, lawn tennis court, gymnasium hall, synthetic running stadium, swimming pool, multipurpose hall and a cycling Velodrome.
This is not it. The university will also be equipped with facilities for shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing, kayaking among other provisions with the capacity to train 1,080 sportspersons, which includes 540 women and 540 men. As for the academic structure, the university will provide BA in sports courses along with diploma, post graduation, MPhil and PhD degrees.
The foundation of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University is a part of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party’s cluster of projects ahead of the Assembly elections in the poll bound state of Uttar Pradesh this year. Spread over 24 acres, the sports university will be situated on the bypass road adjoining the local civil hospital and will be ready by 2024.
