Who is Patrick Roy?
Patrick Jacques Roy, a Canadian professional ice hockey coach, was born on October 5, 1965, in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. He was formerly employed as an executive and goaltender. The 58-year-old stands 6 ft 2 in (188 cm) tall.
A look at Patrick Roy’s career
The National Hockey League (NHL) saw Roy, nicknamed “Saint Patrick,” play for two teams: the Montreal Canadiens for eleven years and the Colorado Avalanche for eighteen. With two different teams, Roy won two Stanley Cups during his career.
Roy’s record read 551 victories, 315 defeats in normal, and 131 ties/losses in extra time. His save percentage was.910, his goals-against average was 2.54, and he recorded 66 shutouts. From 1984 until 1995, Roy played for the Montreal Canadiens. From 1995 to 2003, he was a member of the Colorado Avalanche.
Apart from being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, he also has three Conn Smythe Trophies (1986, 1993, and 2001), four Stanley Cups (two with Montreal in 1986 and 1993 and two with Colorado in 1996 and 2001), and three Vezina Trophies (1989, 1990, and 1992).
Roy is largely renowned for having popularised the butterfly goaltender method, which has gone on to become the most common goaltending style in the world.
This is not the first time that Roy will be behind an NHL bench and the former goaltender was hired by the Avalanche as the team’s head coach and vice president of hockey operations in May of 2013.
