The Kieron Pollard-led team of MI Cape Town defeated the Paarl Royals in the SA20 encounter on January 19 by an inning. The Royals set MI Cape Town a target of 173 runs, which they accomplished in 16.5 overs. Ryan Rickelton, who scored an undefeated 94 runs off 52 balls, was declared the man of the match. Apart from his outstanding performance, there’s a fan moment during the match that’s making waves.

A few fans were shown in the camera pan throughout the Paarl Royals’ inning. A girl chose to take centre stage as soon as she saw herself on the big screen. The audience gave her a hearty applause for downing a whole cup of soft drink in one go. The name and identity of the girl aren’t known yet but it is believed the man she took the second drink from was her father.

A moment later, the camera panned back to her. She then made the sudden decision to act wildly, snatching the beer glass from the person seated next to her and downing the entire contents in one sitting. The Cape Town throng gave her another enormous cheer as she finished the beer glass. There is a video of this moment going around the internet.
The video was shared on the official X handle of SA20, along with the message, “Responsibly hydrate; it’s hot outside.”
MI Cape Town easily defeated Paarl Royals
Concerning the game, Paarl Royals had scored 172 runs. With an outstanding opening partnership of 80 runs between Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton, the MI Cape Town openers proved to be too strong for the Royals’ bowlers. After Dussen left, Rickelton continued to light the fireworks.
Rickelton hit seven fours and six sixes during his undefeated 94-run inning. With 19 balls left to bowl, Cape Town began to chase the mark thanks to his spectacular knock. This is MICT’s second victory in the competition. However, with three victories, Paarl Royals maintain their lead in the points table despite the loss.
