AS Roma parted ways with Jose Mourinho on Tuesday, marking the sixth dismissal in the 60-year-old’s managerial career, check out his record and salary

The decision followed a disappointing season that left Roma in ninth place in Serie A. Mourinho, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the campaign, had reportedly sought a new deal, but the club opted for a separation.

This dismissal adds to Mourinho’s track record of five previous sackings. Throughout his career, he has accumulated substantial compensation, earning approximately £80 million.

Notable payouts include £26 million from Chelsea, £17 million from Real Madrid, £19.6 million from Manchester United, £15 million from Tottenham, and a comparatively modest £3 million from Roma, given his contract’s expiration.

Mourinho’s total compensation surpasses that of his managerial counterparts. His bitter rival, Antonio Conte, is estimated to have earned around £37 million in compensation during his career, with a significant portion coming from a £26 million payout by Chelsea in 2018.

Mourinho was on a £10 million annual salary at Roma which made him the second highest earning manager in a league that has managers taking home even less than a million. His payout from Roma is only likely to be around £3m, given he was out of contract at the end of the season with his current net worth at $120 million.

Mourinho’s 1.70 points-per-game record is the lowest for a manager of Roma since 2013, having managed 68 wins in 138 matches and his 929-day stint also yielded 31 draws and 39 defeats and the 29 points he accumulated this term were the fewest points the club have had after 20 Serie A games since the 2002-03 season (27).

Roma’s decision came after Mourinho’s 17-month stint, culminating in a 3-1 defeat to AC Milan, a match he watched from the stands due to suspension. The club had won only one of their last six league games, and their overall performance this season has been lackluster, currently sitting behind several teams in the race for European qualification.

Roma Owners Expressed Gratitude

In a statement, Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin expressed gratitude for Mourinho’s passion and efforts but emphasized the need for an immediate change for the club’s best interests.

The owners of the club said “We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.”

They further added “We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavors.”

Mourinho had joined Roma in May 2021, securing the Europa Conference League title in 2022 and guiding the team to the Europa League final last season.

As Mourinho faces an uncertain future in the football world, having been dismissed by his last four clubs, his departure from Roma marks the end of a two-and-a-half-year tenure. Despite achieving success with European trophies, his managerial career has been consistently marred by disciplinary issues.
