Novak Djokovic registers hard-fought win over debutant Dino Prizmic

During the announcement of the main draws, Djokovic was expected to secure an easy win against the young debutant. However, the youngster, who had played through three rounds of qualifying to enter the main draw of his first major tournament, gave a tough fight. Dino pushed his idol hard, making him play his longest ever first-round match. In fact, the intense match lasted well over four hours. The Croatian player even won the second set against Djokovic.  By the end of the match, Novak had won with a score of 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, but Prizmic had won the crowd’s admiration as well as his idol’s.

Dino Prizmic bio

Dino Prizmic is an upcoming Croatian professional tennis player who was born on August 5, 2005, in Split, Croatia. Prizmic grew up training at the Tenis Klub Split, which is also where Novak’s coach, Goran Ivanisevic, trained. Notably, Goran has closely followed Dino’s growth as a player and even encouraged him to move to Zagreb, where he could train with the best. Prizmic decided to follow his advice and shifted to the Croatian capital, where he progressed extensively.

Dino Prizmic career

Dino started out his tennis career in the junior ranks, even winning the Junior Roland Garros title in 2023. The youngster made his breakthrough last year on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the title in Banja Luka. The Croatian teen was the ninth-ranked junior when he won the French Open last year. He won the title after defeating Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Prado Angelo 6-1, 6-4, in straight sets. Following the win, he shared:

For me, it’s a big achievement. It’s my dream when I was kid. I am really happy for myself and for my team and my whole family to won this tournament.”

After the title win, Dino eventually went on to win his first Challenger title and entered the Australian Open. He was then ranked 178th in the world. Following his recent match, Dino Prizmic managed to win the admiration of Djokovic as well as tennis fans worldwide despite losing the match.
