It’s an annual men’s domestic football annual knockout tournament in England. It is run by the English Football League (EFL) and is available to all 92 clubs that make up the top four divisions of the league, which include the Premier League and the Championship, League One, and League Two divisions of the EFL’s own league competition.
The English League Cup, which was first played in 1960–61, is contested in rounds and ends with single-leg ties in the semifinals. The title will be decided in a single match in the final, as opposed to two legs in the semis.
The first winners of the EFL Cup were Aston Villa. In the subsequent two-leg final, Villa defeated Rotherham United 3-2 on aggregate. To secure the cup, Peter McParland scored in the second leg’s extra time.
Following their 3-0 loss against Newcastle United in the fourth round, defending champions Manchester United has already been eliminated. The most EFL Cup victories belong to Liverpool. In addition to their four tournament runner-up results, the Reds have won the championship nine times.
Aston Villa and Chelsea have both won the EFL Cup five times, while Manchester United has six trophies. Manchester City has won the cup eight times.
