Partying in the lead-up to the New Year took a tragic turn for a 27-year-old software engineer in Bengaluru, as he accidentally plummeted from the 33rd floor of his friend’s apartment on Friday morning.

The deceased, identified as 33 year old Divyanshu Sharma, hailed from Uttar Pradesh and was employed in Bengaluru.

A resident of Kodigehalli in KR Puram, he belonged to a family where his father, Chaman Sharma, a retired Indian Air Force employee, resided in Horamavu with other family members.
What Exactly Happened?
In the early hours of Friday, after a night of revelry in anticipation of the New Year, Sharma tragically fell to his death from the 33rd-floor balcony of his friend’s flat in Bhattarahalli near KR Pura, east Bengaluru.
According to preliminary investigations, Sharma slipped while attempting to dispose of cigarette ash and fell near the apartment complex’s walking track.
Sharma and three friends, including Monica, had spent Thursday night together. After visiting Monica’s flat, they ventured to a Whitefield mall for a movie.
Upon returning to Monica’s flat around 2:30 am, Sharma, along with his friends, retired to sleep. However, tragedy struck as he fell from the balcony while, presumably, trying to dispose of cigarette ash or enjoy some fresh air.
In a statement with media, the KR Puram police stated “Everyone was asleep and Divyanshu decided to clean the room which was filled with ash and cigarette buds as they partied the whole night. It looks like he slipped from the balcony of 33rd floor while throwing the ash outside.”
They further added, “The body was found close to the playground, and the person’s ID card was used to identify him.”
Furthermore, the police officer mentioned that they were waiting for the autopsy report to confirm the cause of death for the man. Additionally, they had interviewed all of his companions.
The Incident occurred in a flat at Pashmina Waterfront Apartment in KR Puram, owned by Sharma’s friend Monica. The police were alerted by some residents through the society’s WhatsApp group. Monica, upon receiving the message, searched for Divyanshu and discovered his lifeless body.
The authorities have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting further investigations.
