Following injuries to his knee and face sustained during the most recent leg of the Alpine Ski World Cup, Christof Innerhofer, a former world champion and hometown favourite, was flown to the hospital by helicopter with his crash accident video now viral
A nightmarish end to the year 2023 for Christof!
Christof Innerhofer had a horrific fall in Bormio and terrifyingly finished the year. When the collision occurred, the two-time Winter Olympics medalist was taking part in the Super-G event in the Alpine Ski World Cup’s final 2023 leg. On Friday, Innerhofer, 39, appeared to completely lose his balance while descending the infamous Stelvio at a high speed.

He slid onto his side and landed awkwardly, trying in vain to get back on two skis. Before sliding into a safety net and stopping, Innerhofer was unable to stop his face and torso from slamming against a gate.
The racing was stopped while medics raced to the site to try to bring Innerhofer off the slope. But it soon became apparent that the injured star would not be able to go on his own because of his wounds.
Christof had to be airlifted immediately
Even though the 2011 Super-G world champion was at least sitting up of his own free will, a chopper was dispatched to take him from the scene. Though the extent of Innerhofer’s injuries is yet unknown, it is thought that he was brought to the hospital right away.
According to Der Spiegel, the Italian, who placed second and third in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, was bleeding profusely from his face after colliding with the gate. But the injury to his knee might have more serious repercussions for his competitive chances.
One significant knee injury has already occurred at the Alpine Ski World Cup after Austrian standout Marco Schwarz tore his ACL on Thursday. Innerhofer will be hoping to avoid something as terrible now that his season has ended.
After Innerhofer was transported to the hospital, Friday’s race resumed, with Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin winning the downhill event and Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt winning the Super-G. On January 6, the Alpine Ski World Cup will return to Abelboden, Switzerland, although it appears that Innerhofer won’t be competing.
