For an incident that reportedly happened during a football game in Kansas back in September, Shannon is being charged with r*pe. Heย reportedly went to Lawrence, Kansas, on Thursday and surrendered himself in to the police, according to Illinois. He was leaving for Champaign after posting bail.

The Lawrence police department had been looking into Shannon since late September, the school said, a report in The Guardian suggests, but until Wednesday it had “yet to receive actionable information.”

Terrence Shannon took an early interest in basketball, especially after experiencing a growth spurt in high school. Attending Chicago’s Lincoln Park High School, he finished his senior year there with an average of 15 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.

He transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, in the 2019 class after reclassifying and receiving no offers for NCAA Division I basketball scholarships by the end of his senior year.

He was a four-star prospect who committed to Texas Tech after first choosing DePaul. DePaul, Florida State, Georgetown, and Illinois all made offers, but he decided to join the Red Raiders instead. Shannon stayed eligible to play collegiate basketball and filed for the 2021 NBA draft on April 8, 2021. At some point, he went back to Texas Tech.

He participated in the NBA draft combine following his freshman year at Illinois and submitted an NBA draft declaration. After that, he decided not to enter the draft and spent his second and last season at Illinois.
