Despite having his 2019 IPL career cut short by a BCCI ban related to inconsistencies in his birth certificate, Rasikh has garnered attention for his exceptional performances in Jammu and Kashmir’s white-ball cricket, most notably taking six wickets against Chhattisgarh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
His comeback to the IPL highlights his talent and tenacity, attracting the attention of IPL teams eager to use his potential. Since the Delhi Capitals signed him, he has become the talk of the town. Many people are also trying to know more about him. So, here’s what we know about him:
Who is Rasikh Salam Dar?
Rasikh Salam Dar is an Indian cricketer. He has been in the news because he was recently signed by the IPL franchise, the Delhi Capitals, to play in the IPL 2024.
He was born on 5 April 2000 in Ashmuji, Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. His father’s name is Ab Salam Dar. However, not much is known about his family.
Rasikh is currently 23 years old.
His career
In the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Rasikh Salam Dar made his debut in List A cricket. He then quickly moved on to debut in first-class cricket in the Ranji Trophy and Twenty20 cricket in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
He reached the highest point in December 2018 when, at 17 years and 353 days, he made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut as the youngest player ever selected by the Mumbai Indians. He is now the third cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the IPL.
However, his promising career took a blow in June 2019, when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned him for two years over the inconsistency in his birth certificate.
Subsequently, he was released by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2020 IPL auction. His destiny changed in February 2022 when he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2022 Indian Premier League.
Rasikh Salam Dar, most recently, began a new chapter in his career as he was bought by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 auction for Rs.20 lakhs. He can persistently bowl in the 135-140 kmph region.
