The BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China on Sunday saw Tai Tzu Ying and Viktor Axelsen win the women’s and men’s singles titles, respectively. Let us have a look at the winners and the prize money they will grab alongside the title.

Men’s singles

On Sunday, December 17, in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, at the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals, Viktor Axelsen won a record breaking fifth season-ending championship. He defeated  Shi Yuqi with a score of 21-11, 21-12 in 49 minutes.

Women’s singles

Despite down 10–19 against world No. 1 An Se–young in the match on Saturday, Tai Tzu Ying managed to rally and salvage four match points. She overcame a 4-1 deficit to win 12-21, 21-14, and 21-18 in one hour and thirteen minutes, setting a record for the fourth BWF season-ending championship.

Men’s doubles

The top-ranked Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang of China lost to the incumbent world champions, Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea, 21-17, 22-20, in 43 minutes in the men’s doubles final.

Women’s doubles

In an hour and two minutes, reigning world champions and World No. 1 Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan defeated Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee of South Korea in the women’s doubles final, 21-16, 21-16.

Mixed doubles finals

In 48 minutes, world No. 1 mixed doubles team Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong triumphed over their countrymen Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping with a score of 21-11, 21-18.

BWF World Tour Finals 2023 prize money

An astounding USD 2.5 million will be awarded in prize money at the BWF World Tour Finals in 2023, according to a report from the Badminton World Tour.

The champions in the singles categories for men and women will get USD 200,000 and 12,000 BWF points respectively from this prize money pool. The winners of the mixed doubles, women’s doubles, and men’s doubles competitions will get 12,000 BWF points and USD 210,000.

USD 50,000 and 8,400 BWF points will be awarded to the players who are ousted from the competition in the semi-finals of every doubles event.

Men’s and women’s singles 

  • Winners: USD 200,000 and 12,000 BWF points each
  • Runners-up: USD 100,000 and 10,200 points each
