However, the BCCI decided it didn’t want want Virat Kohli at the helm of ODI cricket either with him being stripped of captaincy with the IPL proven Rohit Sharma being asked to take over. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had gone onto claim that the BCCI had implored Kohli to not step down from the captaincy in the shortest format of the game but with him deciding otherwise, it was decided best to have one captain in white ball cricket.

Opening up about the BCCI president’s claim, Kohli went onto refute the comments, claiming he was never asked not to relieve his role as captain. He further went onto add at his press conference that he was informed of no longer being the ODI captain only 90 minutes after being called by the selectors to be informed of their meeting.

While Ganguly had decided to refrain from publicly refuting Kohli’s claims with a senior BCCI source saying it was done keeping in mind the upcoming South Africa vs India series, the president has now finally commented on Kohli. Quizzed about which player’s attitude he liked the most during an event in Gurugram, Ganguly went onto say, “I like Virat Kohli’s attitude but he fights a lot.”
