Earlier this year, on August 2, 2023, former professional wrestler Kurt Angle posted a video of himself on his TikTok account, @realkurtangle. In the video, he quickly introduced himself before ending it by staring blankly into the camera. The video currently has over 2.6 million plays and 300,000 likes. Months after Kurt posted the video, a TikToker named @thebasedlander2 used the video as a meme on December 3, 2023.
While posting the video, TikToker added a caption stating, “How the Genie Looks at Me about wishing for vodka instead of a child’s surgery”. The post gained over 1.9 million plays and 360,400 likes in just four days. Ever since then, the meme has been trending on TikTok, and users have been posting it with distressing and creepy captions.

Ever since the post by @thebasedlander2 went viral, several other users have gone on to post all kinds of other memes using the original video. A TikToker named @couragepathh posted the video on December 5th, 2023, with a caption about being assigned homework on holiday break. The post gained over 594,500 plays and 145,400 likes in just two days On the same day, another TikToker named @super_snax_ posted a similar meme, which gained over 1.6 million plays and 393,700 likes in just two days.
As netizens started posting various iterations of the meme, some featured the video with different TikTok sounds. One such video by a TikToker user named @mrcrabsmc posted on December 6, 2023, gained over 1.3 million plays. The post gained over 228,400 likes in just under a day. Apart from TikTok, the meme has gone on to all sorts of other social media platforms. For example, an X user named @joshbechill5 tweeted on December 9, 2023, “Them Kurt angle edits are putting me in tears.”. The tweet gained over 37.9 million views and 9,500 likes in just three days.
