26-years-old Switzerland International Manuel Akanji joined Borussia Dortmund in 2018 from Basel where he was a regular. Initially, he found it difficult to break into the solid Dortmund squad but improved as a defender. Akanji is often criticized for making costly errors but he is a strong central defender and will only improve with time.

Akanji injured his right knee on international duty with Switzerland against Northern Ireland and underwent surgery a few days back. He will return to training after the new year and will hopefully be able to achieve full fitness.
