17 year old Kaitlyn Coones, gave 33-year-old boyfriend 5 hours to kill his mother, but ended up doing it herself.
The foster kid from Canton was dating the victim’s 33-year-old son Jonathan Jones.

According to reports, authorities were able to locate the pair in Mexico by tracking Jonathan’s ankle monitor.
Kaitlyn Coones faces multiple charges as an adult
Last week, on Friday, November 17, 2023, the judge ordered Coones be tried as an adult for murdering her boyfriend’s mother, identified as 53-year-old Nicole Jones. The judge charged Kaitlyn with aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse. According to reports, the murder took place earlier this year, in April, while her indictment took place in August alongside Jonathan Jones.

Authorities initially found out about the murder following a welfare check at the victim’s residence in Toledo. Upon failing to find the 53-year-old woman at her house, they conducted a manhunt for both Coones and Jonathan. Authorities finally arrested the pair in Chihuahua, Mexico. According to Prosecutor Andy Lastra, Kaitlyn attacked Nicole even without her knowledge of her being in the house. The teenager allegedly beat her up with a rock before strangling her to death.
Lastra stated:
She went outside retrieved a rock and when Nicole Jones was standing in front of the refrigerator in the kitchen, unaware of Kaitlyn’s presence bludgeoned Nicole Jones a number of times and strangled her.”
Meanwhile, Kaitlyn’s boyfriend, Jonathan, was allegedly in the living room during the time of the murder and later helped Kaitlyn dispose his mother’s body. Authorities have further revealed that Coones was living in a group home before she went missing in April. The pair were involved in an inappropriate relationship.
Motive behind the murder
According to Detective Jake Albright of the Sylvania Township Police Department, Kaitlyn Coones murdered Nicole because she didn’t approve of her relationship with her son Jonathan. Interestingly, Kaitlyn Coones had been living in Jonathan’s bedroom without Nicole’s knowledge and had already given her a window of five hours to Jonathan, to kill his own mother before she murdered Nicole herself.
Jonathan Jones convicted of multiple charges
Meanwhile, authorities found out that the court had earlier convicted 33-year-old Jonathan of multiple charges. The charges included endangering a child, attempted pandering obscenity involving minors, vandalism, as well as failure to appear in court. As such, the court sentenced him to four years behind bars.
