Jyotish Kumar Yadav, a 35-year-old software engineer, who tragically passed away due to a heart attack after India’s defeat to Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final.

Yadav, who had returned home for Diwali, was watching the match with family and friends at his residence in Durgasamudram, Tirupati.
As the gripping final unfolded at the expansive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Yadav, described as “tense and anxious” during the match, experienced a rollercoaster of emotions.
Witnessing India take three quick Aussie wickets, he was momentarily “swaying with joy.” However, the intensity of the game took a toll on him, and towards the end, he complained of chest pain.
Yadav’s collapse occurred immediately after the culmination of the match. Despite being rushed to Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia government general hospital, medics declared him dead on arrival, marking a tragic end to his life.
Yadav’s untimely demise highlights the emotional investment that cricket fans often make in the game, transcending the boundary between sport and personal life.
His profound connection with the team was evident in his intense engagement with the match, reportedly disturbed after witnessing images of Rohit Sharma in tears following India’s defeat.

The Chairman of Tirupati Urban Development Authority, Mohith Reddy, visited Yadav’s family to offer condolences and extended support on behalf of the state government. Reports indicate that Yadav, the son of a retired TTD employee, was on the brink of marriage.
