English former cricket player Richard Keith Illingworth was born on August 23, 1963, in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The 60-year-old is currently an umpire.

Illingworth grew up around cricket, as he comes from a family with a strong sporting tradition. Derek Illingworth, his father, was a well-known cricket player who played for Worcestershire and England.
Although Richard played for a while with Derbyshire and abroad with Natal, the majority of his domestic cricket career was spent with Worcestershire.
In addition to competing in the Cricket World Cups in 1992 and 1996, he played for England in nine Test matches and twenty-five ODIs. Illingworth made his first-class debut in 1982 and specialises in a left-arm spin. Only two Second XI appearances later, following a 3–61 victory against Somerset, he was elevated to the Worcestershire first team.
Illingworth played county cricket for Worcestershire for twenty seasons, the most of which he spent there. His career high points came in 1988 and 1989 when the county won the County Championship.
Talking about his career as an umpire, for the English cricket season of 2006, Illingworth was added to the ECB comprehensive list of first-class umpires. He had officiated 47 first-class matches as of the conclusion of the 2008 English cricket season.
The ICC’s elite umpire panel welcomed Richard Illingworth on June 25, 2013. He was one of the sixteen umpires selected in April 2019 to officiate matches at the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He was also part of the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final and the 2023 WTC final at the Oval.
