Isaac Ferrell, a high school football coach in Georgia, was fired as a result of a dispute over a baptism ceremony he hosted for around 20 players on school property. The players were shown being baptized in a tub by a local preacher named Gary Few in a video that was uploaded on the team’s official Facebook page.

After the video caused a stir in the community and a report to The Freedom from Religion Foundation, claiming a breach of constitutional norms about the separation of religion and state, Tattnall County High School Superintendent Waters announced Ferrell’s dismissal.
The Foundation voiced concerns about the integration of religious activities with the school’s football program and accused Isaac Ferrell of abusing his position by allowing the baptism to occur.
However, the superintendent did clarify that Ferrell’s termination had nothing to do with the baptism ceremony and had instead to do with an unrelated incident that happened on November 3 during a football game. Because the investigation into this occurrence is still underway, no more information has been released.
Ferrell is still employed by the school as a teacher, but an investigation into the baptism service is still going on. While some parents supported Isaac Ferrell for his actions, expressing pride in their sons’ voluntary participation, the incident drew mixed reactions.

He is based in Georgia. He was the football coach at Tattnall County High School in Georgia. However, he is currently fired from his position. According to Savannah How, Ferrell worked for five years as the defensive line coach and associate head coach at Toombs County before taking on his position at Tattnall County High School.
According to FFRF, Isaac Ferrell used his position to force his own religious views on his players. There are reports that he set up a local preacher to see a football practice on October 24, 2023. The pastor was allowed to preach to the pupils and perform baptisms on school grounds during this session. Ferrell was fired as a consequence of this incident.
