Renowned actor and mimicry artist Kalabhavan Haneef passed away on 9th November, 2023, at the age of 63.

He had been undergoing treatment for respiratory difficulties at a private hospital in Kochi. It is known that Haneef is survived by his wife Wahida and children Sithara Haneef and Shahrukh Haneef.

Kalabhavan Haneef, originally hailing from Mattancherry near Kochi, first entered the entertainment industry through his mimicry performances. Notably, Haneef made his debut in Cheppukilukkana Changathi and went on to feature in over 300 movies, predominantly in humorous roles. Haneef also expanded his presence to television serials and stage shows.

Among Haneef’s standout mimicry acts were his impressions of political figures like K. Karunakaran, VS Achuthanandan, and Narendra Modi. After Haneef’s death, his colleagues, including superstar Mammootty and Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cheriyan, expressed their condolences. Minister Cheriyan, in a Facebook post, praised Haneef for his memorable roles, attributing them to his spontaneous acting skills and impeccable dialogue delivery.

63 year old Haneef embarked on his acting journey in the early 2000s, taking on supporting roles in films like Achante Preman and Katha Nayagan. His career further blossomed with leading roles in various Malayalam films, including Chocolate, Bodyguard, and Pulimurugan. Additionally, he showcased his talent in television serials like Nakshatra Deepangalil and Ponnambili.

As a member of the renowned Kalabhavan performance troupe, he played a crucial role in popularizing mimicry in Kerala. Haneef gained recognition for his comedic performance in the 2001 film Ee Parakkum Thalika. Additionally, he featured in Jude Anthany Joseph’s 2018 film Everyone Is a Hero, which served as India’s official Oscar entry for that year. Known for his versatility, Haneef excelled in both comedic and dramatic roles.
