The new principal of Delhi Public School Nerul in Navi Mumbai has been accused of mental harassment and indecent behaviour, leading to the suspension of four senior teachers. Parents have expressed alarm over the suspensions, which took place on October 20 of this academic year. Alumni have also expressed support for the suspended professors on social media.

Five senior female teachers had complained earlier in August against HS Vashistha, the new principal of the school appointed in April. The teachers contacted the National Commission for Women and the local NRI police station. One of the teachers had already resigned, according to the Indian Express, before the other teachers received their suspension orders.

Parents demand openness from the school’s administration

According to a video making the rounds on the internet, security guards blocked three of the four suspended faculty members from entering the school through the main gate. Parents were shocked by the suspensions and worried about how they might affect their children’s grades, especially because they happened in the middle of the school year. One of the senior academics had already quit because of the issues.

Concerns about possible negative effects on education quality were also voiced by parents, as the school would replace experienced teachers with less experienced ones who would make less money. They emphasized how abruptly terminating key employees during the school year upsets kids’ connections with their teachers and their educational journey, which impacts the learning environment as a whole and the students’ emotional support system.

Parents have voiced their concerns through an online petition that they have established in reaction to this, calling for a general body meeting. The petition demands openness from the school’s administration and draws attention to the decision’s possible effects on students’ academic performance and mental health.

In addition, parents want to speak with the principal; therefore, on Friday morning, they marched in protest to the school. Moreover, Principal Vashistha is still unavailable for comment despite several attempts. Further, he had previously brushed off every criticism of him as untrue.
