Dubey recently wrote to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha stating that Moitra accepted bribes from business tycoon Darshan Hiranandani.

MP Nishikant Dubey alleges claims of bribery against Mahua Moitra

In his letter to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla on Sunday, Dubey stated that Moitra accepted cash and gifts from business tycoon Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for fielding questions in parliament on his behalf. According to Dubey, Moitra committed serious breach of parliamentary privilege and committed an offence under Section 120-A (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Dubey’s complaint reportedly stems from a letter that Dehadrai sent him. Dehadrai reportedly filed a complaint against Moitra with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stating that he has โ€œirrefutable evidenceโ€ that Mahua Moitra took bribes from Hiranandani. Dehadrai further claimed that Moitra even gave complete access of her online Lok Sabha account to Hiranandani. According to Dehadrai, Hiranandani used this to misuse the account and post Parliamentary Questions of his liking. Dehadrai alleges that 50 of the 61 questions that Moitra asked during her tenure as an MP came from such quarters.

According to Dehadrai, Moitra and Hiranandani hatched the alleged criminal conspiracy to:

  1. Further Hiranandani’s business interests;
  2. Target Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other government functionaries;
  3. Target Gautam Adani to whom Hiranandani had lost energy and infrastructure contracts.

Moreover, Dehadrai claims to have witnessed various phone calls between Moitra and Hiranandani discussing plans about the conspiracy. He also claims to have seen Moitra receive a number of gifts and cash from Hiranandani.

Mahu Moitra issues a legal notice

Following the staunch allegations against her, Moitra has issued a legal notice through Panag & Babu Law Offices. Through her legal notice, Moitra has gone all out to deny all the allegations issued against her. She also flagged several tweets and news reports on Dubeyโ€™s complaint, stating:

In such tweets, videos and News Reports being carried by Noticee Nos. 3 to 21 (media houses) contain and propagate the defamatory allegations levelled our Clients which are ex facie false, misconceived and designed to curry political mileage and extract personal vendetta and do not have an iota of truth to the same.โ€

The 49-year-old further stated how she has often clashed with Dubey several times in the past due to different opinions on various issues. According to her, she “rattled” Dubey back in March 2023, questioning him about the authenticity of his educational qualifications in regards to his election nomination papers.

As for Dehadrai, Moitra stated that she once shared a personal friendship with him for several years before falling out. Moitra further claims that after parting ways, Dehadrai sent her several vile, malicious and vulgar messages. He even allegedly trespassed into her official government residence besides stealing some personal possessions, including her pet dog, which he later returned to her.

Dehadrai is an advocate from Delhi who practices in South Delhi. While his DOB isn’t known, he is aged between 35-45 years.

Mahua Moitra further states that she allegedly filed police complaints against Dehadrai but later withdrew on his request. However, according to the legal notice:

Noticee No. 2 (Dehadrai) immediately zapped back to old ways and continued his misguided and malicious pursuit of vendetta against our Client. Noticee No. 2 reached out to several prominent journalists and attempted to convince them to run stories based on wild, vindictive, fictitious and entirely imaginary allegations about our Client.”

Moitra further revealed that Dehadrai approached Moitra’s political opponents with the claims because no reputed journalist carried his allegations.
