After another clutch performance from Daniil Medvedev, Russia’s 15-year wait for a Davis Cup victory came to an end on Sunday. Medvedev finished an incredible year by defeating Marin Cilic 7-6 (7), 6-2 in the second singles match, giving Russia a 2-0 lead over Croatia and their first Davis Cup triumph since 2006.

The No. 2 Medvedev, who overcame Novak Djokovic to win the U.S. Open three months ago for his first Grand Slam title, won his sixth consecutive Davis Cup match in straight sets.

Cilic showed symptoms of exhaustion in the second set, breaking his service in the fourth game before gaining control of the match and lost only one of his first-serve points.

Davis Cup 2021 Winner, Score And Results

Daniil Medvedev led Russia to the Davis Cup 2021 after a wait of 15 years. The World No. 2, who did not drop a set throughout the event, defeated Marin Cilic 7-6(7), 6-2 in 89 minutes to give the Russian Tennis Federation triumph.

The defending champions, Spain, were knocked out in the round robin stage.

Match Score

The final score was Russia 2-0 Croatia in the Davis Cup Final. It was courtesy Daniil Medvedev who did not drop a set. 

At the Madrid Arena, Andrey Rublev had upset Borna Gojo in straight sets to put the Russians ahead.

Most Valuable Player: Davis Cup 2021 MVP

The Russian Tennis Federation was victorious in the final, defeating Croatia. Andrey Rublev was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after going 6-1 in singles and doubles.

Rublev had won 6-4, 7-6 (5) on his first match point over Gojo. Gojo had entered the Davis Cup finals as the 279th-ranked player but had won all three of his matches.

Rublev, who finished fifth in the world, won for the third time in a row after losing in the group round to Spain’s Feliciano Lopez.

Davis Cup 2021 Prize Money

The overall prize money pool for the Davis Cup Finals in 2021 is about $15.3 million, which is shared between the players and their National Associations.
