The British scientist, Kristy Smitten, lost her battle with cancer at 29. She was diagnosed with cardiac angiosarcoma, which is an extremely rare heart cancer. She fought through relentless discomfort to carry on with her vital work before passing away in the hospital.

The curiosity of big pharma was piqued, and with the help of funds, Kirsty founded MetalloBio in March 2021, taking on the challenge of becoming CEO while completing her PhD.
Her company is committed to creating new antibiotics to combat AMR, a serious problem that claims 1.2 million lives annually throughout the world.
A few months later, she was named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30, and the company won the Royal Society of Chemistry’s competition for new innovations.
