Ayesha Mukherjee was born on 27 August 1975, to a middle-class Indian family in West Bengal, India. She was born to a native Indian Bengali father while her mother was a nursing graduate in the British Associate. Despite being born in India, her parents eventually decided to move the family to Australia when she was just 8 years old. She can speak fluent Bengali even though she has lived in Australia since 8 years of age and is a Hindu by religion.
She had a tough childhood growing up as she got abused at an early age. However, instead of falling victim to it, she made a promise to get stronger and protect herself. As such, she took an interest in sports, where she felt she could become an equal to the opposite sex. She took part in various sports like cricket, football, and other major sports, but ultimately landed on boxing. Aside from that she was also excellent in her academics as well.

Ayesha first married an Australian businessman around 1998-99 and had their first child, a daughter named Aliyah, in 2000. Following the divorce, the two daughters, decided to stay back with the father but both of them currently live with their mother.

The two eventually started getting closer and became good friends. Despite being 10 years older and married at that time, and with his dad against the relationship, Shikhar was still madly in love.
The pair eventually got engaged in 2009, but decided to wait until 2012 to get married. Shikhar wanted some time to focus in his career and also get to Aliyah and Rhea better. The famous couple got married in October 2012 in a pure Punjabi style wedding with not much guests invited. They however, had a big reception party, where famous celebrities including Indian cricketers and others attended. The couple eventually had a baby boy, named Zoravar. After being married for about eight years, Shikhar Dhawan and his wife Ayesha Mukherjee decided to part ways on September 7, 2021.
