Gilas Pilipinas has successfully advanced to the knockout stage of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. They secured their second victory in the men’s basketball competition on Thursday, defeating their Southeast Asian counterparts, Thailand, with a score of 87-72 at the Zhejiang University Zijingang Gymnasium. Justin Brownlee led the team with 19 points, while Jaymar Perez contributed 16. This triumph was largely attributed to their strong performance in the second and third quarters. Having secured their place in at least the round-of-12, Gilas Pilipinas is now focused on their upcoming crucial match against Jordan, who also boasts a 2-0 record in the same group. The winner of this matchup will earn a direct berth into the quarter-finals, bypassing the play-in round-of-12.
In the city of Shaoxing, the Indian women’s team displayed an impressive performance as they outperformed Mongolia in a 5×5 preliminary round Group A match. Despite a resilient effort from the Mongolian team, the Indian squad secured a well-fought victory with a score of 68-62. Prior to this victory, the Indian women’s team had already secured a convincing 66-46 win against Indonesia in their opening match. Next up, the Indian Women’s team is set to face China in their final group stage match on Sunday.
