At the 2021 event at Whistling Straits, the American team secured a historic 19-9 victory, a win they hope will serve as a catalyst for an extended period of Ryder Cup success. This outcome implies that the European team requires 14.5 points this week to secure victory, while a 14-14 tie would be sufficient for Zach Johnson and Team USA to maintain possession of the Ryder Cup.

2023 Ryder Cup schedule, date, time, format, & venue

The action is scheduled to commence early on Friday, September 29, 2023, with the inaugural tee shot expected at 6:35 am BST. This marks the beginning of the event’s proceedings.

Over the course of both Friday and Saturday, there will be two sessions each day, leading up to the conclusion of the Ryder Cup on Sunday, October 1, 2023, featuring 12 singles matches. Team Europe enjoys the advantage of playing on their home turf this week, as the event is hosted at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.

As customary, there will be two sets of four-match sessions for both foursomes and fourball formats before all 12 players participate in singles matches on Sunday. The decision regarding the format to initiate the action falls to Luke Donald, the home team’s captain, who has chosen the foursomes format. In this format, partners take alternate shots using the same golf ball.

Subsequently, the focus will shift to the fourball matches, where players use their individual golf balls, and the lowest score for each team on each hole is recorded. Each match offers a point, with both teams receiving half a point in the event of a match ending in a tie after 18 holes.
