From September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China will serve as the Asian Games host city. With a 655-member contingent competing in 41 out of 61 categories, the Indian athletes are eager to compete in the 19th Asiad after earning their best-ever medal total in 2018.
Talking about Rugby, during the group stages of the 2023 Asian Games, seven Indian women will compete in rugby, a sport that is not particularly popular in their nation. Also, neither the Indian men’s team nor the women’s team has been able to grab a medal in rugby at the Asian Games 2023.
Just the second time in its history, the Indian women’s national rugby team is competing at the Asian Games. Because the men’s squad didn’t qualify because it wasn’t one of the top-ranked Asian countries, there is only one representative in rugby.
India’s women’s rugby squad, ranked seventh in Asia, succeeded in gaining entry to the major competition. The men’s squad, who finished outside of Asia’s top eight, had a different experience, failing to advance.
Asian Games 2023 rugby schedule and venue
In Hangzhou Normal University’s Cangqian Athletics Field, the rugby sevens competition for the Hangzhou Asian Games will take place from September 24 to September 26.
The India women’s rugby team is grouped with Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong – China in Pool F. Since all of the teams in Pool F are ranked higher than India, the Indian team will need to perform significantly better than expected to advance to the knockout rounds.
