India will send a 16-person handball team to the 19th Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8. The sport of handball was initially included in the Asian Games in 1982 and has since been a regular event on the continent’s showcase.

It is one of the 61 sports that will be competed in at the current Asian Games. The women’s handball competition will have a total of 9 teams, while the men’s competition will feature about 12 teams.
India has sent a 16-person female delegation to Hangzhou. However, there are no men’s squads sent to the Asian Games this year. Due to its poor performance (16) on the international stage, the team was one of four that the Sports Ministry withdrew.
The 15-member squad led by captain Jyoti Shukla will represent the fifth-ranked Indian women’s team in Asia. Along with China, Japan, Nepal, Hong Kong, China, and China, India is assigned to Pool B in the preliminary groupings. They are going to have a tough competition against China and Japan however, they will only be able to play better thanks to their experience in the qualification games.
Since participating for the first time in 2006, the Indian women’s team has never placed first, and in the previous four competitions, they haven’t even advanced to the semifinals.
Asian Games 2023 schedule and venue
All handball matches at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou are set to take place at the Zhejiang Normal University Xiaoshan Gymnasium between September 24 and October 5.
