On 10 September 2023, Nichole Coats, a 32-year-old part-time sales representative and aspiring model, was discovered dead in her apartment by her father. Coats’ family stated that the circumstances of the death were suspicious, even though they are still awaiting the coroner’s findings.
Later, on 12 September 2023, Maleesa Mooney was discovered dead in her downtown Los Angeles high-rise apartment, which was only five minutes away from Coats’ home two days earlier. Police are looking into the death as a possible murder.
While Mooney’s body was discovered by the authorities on 12 September, her family claimed that they had asked for a welfare check days earlier after losing contact with her on 7 September 2023. On 10 September 2023, police arrived at the model’s flat to do a welfare check but were forced to leave after she failed to answer the door.
Two days later, at the family’s request, they went back to the flat and, with the aid of the building management, were able to gain entry. There, they discovered the victim had passed away.

Coats, on the other hand, was an assistant sales manager for the HATCH COLLECTIVE company in Los Angeles. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Merchandising from California State University, Long Beach, in 2015.
